First Aid at Work

Course Overview

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for those persons who are responsible for providing First Aid treatment, including how to deal with a range of injuries and illnesses, to employees and visitors within the workplace.

It gives learners the skills and confidence to respond to a range of accidents and first aid emergencies. It is also ideal for people who have a specific responsibility to provide first aid in voluntary and community activities.

This First Aid at Work course meets the standards required to comply with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations, endorsed by the HSE.

Course Information

This course now includes a practical, hands-on automated external defibrillator (AED) awareness session using trainer AEDs, which has been welcomed by the Health and Safety Executive, citing that awareness training instils greater confidence in the use of AEDs.

First Aid at Work Course Content

  • Aims and Principles of first aid
  • Risk assessments appropriate to their workplace
  • Recording accidents and incidents
  • Contents of First Aid Kits
  • Incident management
  • Treatment of an unconscious casualty
  • Resuscitation of an adult
  • Management of a choking/drowning casualty
  • Control of bleeding
  • Recognition and treatment of Shock, an asthma attack, and an epileptic seizure
  • Assessments and treatment of dislocations, fractures, and soft tissue injuries
  • Recognition and treatment of a heart attack
  • Recognition and treatment of anaphylactic shock
  • Treatment of burns and scalds
  • Recognition and treatment of head injuries
  • Treatment of a diabetic emergency

Assessment

Continuous observation by the trainer and written assessments.

Certification

Successful Learners will receive a QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) certificate valid for 3 years.
