Meet Nicole: Our Lovely Training Coordinator

You’ve met our trainers and operatives, so to continue introducing our lovely centre staff that keep the day to day running smoothly – Meet Nicole!

Nicole joined the team just over a year ago in 2023 as our Training Coordinator and has quickly become a key part of the team.

Can You Tell Us About Your Role as a Training Coordinator and What a Typical Day Looks Like?

As our Coordinator, Nicole’s role focuses on overseeing the training for the piling, housing, and rock and alluvium divisions. She manages all aspects of their training needs, including supporting with NVQs and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Nicole’s typical day includes organising sessions, monitoring external inboxes, scheduling training, and holding catch-ups with each division. In these meetings, she reviews budgets and addresses any outstanding needs. Her varied role keeps her connected with different teams, helping everyone stay on track with their training goals..

Can You Tell Us a Bit About Your Background and How You Got into Construction Training?

Before joining Van Elle, Nicole worked for DHL from the age of 19, beginning with an apprenticeship in customer service. After completing her apprenticeship, she continued with the company but had to change offices and roles when she had her daughter, Willow, due to the long commute and the inability to commit to full-time hours.

After moving, she faced redundancy and seized the opportunity to apply for a role at Van Elle. It felt like a natural fit, especially since her dad had previously worked with us as a lorry driver. Nicole has always found construction fascinating and loves learning new skills every day, as no two days are ever the same.

What Is Your Favourite Aspect of Your Role?

Nicole’s favourite aspect of working at Van Elle is the team. “We all get along so well, and there’s always support when you need it, which really helps with personal growth,” she says.

She genuinely enjoys coming to work every day and collaborating with her colleagues. The non-repetitive nature of the job, along with the ever-evolving construction industry, keeps things interesting for all.

What Has Been One of Your Most Rewarding Experiences in This Role?

One of Nicole’s most rewarding experiences has been watching the team grow and supporting others along the way. She has played a major role in planning NVQs for her divisions and organising plant marshal training, all with the goal of ensuring the piling team is fully compliant by year’s end. “We’re in a strong position,” she reflects. “It’s exciting to see the progress we’re making together.”

What Is Your Favourite Thing About Working at Van Elle?

When it comes to her favourite thing about working at Van Elle, Nicole is quick to mention the team – especially the girls. “We all get along so well, both in and out of work. I’m never bored here, and I really enjoy working alongside the trainers. Having such a great team makes a huge difference and creates a positive and enjoyable work environment.”

What Do You Enjoy Doing in Your Free Time?

Outside of work, Nicole loves spending time with her 4-year-old daughter, Willow. Currently, they are focused on helping Willow learn to ride her bike without stabilisers, with Nicole frequently going out to help her practice. She also enjoys spending quality time with her boyfriend. For personal time, Nicole goes swimming often, finding it a great way to relax and unwind from mum life.

With her passion for construction and dedication to her team, Nicole is a fantastic addition to the Van Elle family!
